Professor Chae's research interests lie in the area of strategy and organizational theory with a specific focus on social evaluations, market categorization, corporate governance, social movements, and artificial intelligence. Taking sociocognitive and behavioral perspectives, she examines how organizational stakeholders such as investors, local communities, and consumers influence firms' strategies and their consequences. Using various research methods including computational text analysis, large data utilization, and experiments, she has investigated various phenomena in the hedge fund, international automotive, restaurant, and music industries, as well as venture startup companies and social movements.
Her research has been published in top management journals including Strategic Managment Journal, Organization Science, and Academy of Management Journal and won Best Division Paper at the Academy of Management, the Flamholtz Award for excellent academic progress, and the Rackham Centennial Fellowship Award for excellence in research, among others. Professor Chae also received the Leabo Teaching Award. She was also a recipient of Samsung Scholarship (2010-2016). Prior to pursuing her doctorate, she worked in equity research at Merrill Lynch and Cazenove, and in financial management at Samsung Electronics.
She serves on the editorial boards of Organization Science and the Journal of Management.
